Hi there, I'm Kim Smith. It's nice to meet you.
I’m an interior designer with a background in fine art and a passion for creating thoughtful, experiential spaces. I recently earned my Master of Science in Interior Architecture and Design from Drexel University (’25).
My graduate thesis explores the balance between individual privacy and social connection in creative live–work environments. I examine how design can foster collaboration and belonging through flexible private studios, co-working areas, and thresholds that encourage informal exchange and cross-disciplinary learning. This research reflects my broader interest in how spatial design can nurture creative communities.
Originally trained as a painter, I shifted from creating large-scale atmospheric artworks to designing immersive environments people can actively engage with. My experience in the food and beverage industry, as well as retail store design, gives me a unique perspective on crafting spaces that are both functional and emotionally resonant.
I live in Philadelphia with my husband and our two Snowshoe Siamese cats. In my free time, I enjoy exploring my city—trying new restaurants and museums, sketching historic architecture, and biking along the Schuylkill River Trail.
I’m always eager to connect with other creatives, and would love to chat about all things design over an afternoon cortado or a cheeky Negroni.
